Why the shape of a glass forms the taste of your wine?

Believe it or not your experience of wine is fully influence by the shape of the wine glass. We know already the effect of colour in psychology however the real impact is related to physics.
In view of the fact that the sides of the wine glass bow inward toward the rim which helps concentrate the aromas around the rim, making wine aromas more distinct. Even the ratio between the diameter of the widest part of a glass and the diameter of the opening will intensify the taste.
In the end is all about the overall feel, touch, texture and temperature including how fast the wine will reach your tongue or how much air is being introduced while pouring.
I personally recommend Austrian Zalto Crystal Glassware for their delicacy and elegance and noticeable difference to others from the touch. Some other brands like Riedel or Spiegelau are on the race while Zalto is on the expensive and they other two are a good middle price option.
Zalto Glassware details:
  • Starting from the left Zalto Burgundy red crystal wineglass 960 ml recommended for Oaked wines white or red and young or closed white or red wines from various countries because the wine opening allow extra air to open up the wine and decantation can be skipped.
  • Zalto Bordeaux crystal wineglass 765 ml, as its name suggests to be use for Bordeaux wines, but also for older red vintages from various countries or younger on-oaked like Burgundy.
  • Zalto Universal crystal wineglass 530 ml, if you need to pick one this is their most flexible option for an easy going range of wines.
  • Zalto White crystal wineglass 400 ml, can be used for light white ones and also perfect for Champagne instead of the Champagne flĂ»te.
